Apple cancels release of AirPower charging mat

Tech giant Apple has officially announced the cancellation of its AirPower wireless charging mat which was announced in 2017.

According to a report by techcrunch.com, Apple cited that the anticipated product will not achieve their high standards, the reason why they are cancelling its release which is a rare move for the company.

Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering stated via email: “After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward.”

The AirPower charging mat was intended a wireless mat which can charge up to three Apple products at once, such as an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods wireless headphones.

While Apple has not specifically mentioned any reason for the the AirPower delay prior to its official cancellation, the report said that it might be related to tough engineering problems related to the laws of physics.
