Facebook reportedly testing messaging app Threads for Instagram

Facebook is reportedly developing new messaging app Threads which is meant to be a companion app for Instagram that will let users have constant, intimate sharing with their closest friends.

According to The Verge, Threads invites users to automatically share their location, speed, and battery life with their “close friends” list and will work together with Instagram’s creative tools to create text, photo, and video messages.

In an illustrated screenshot from the said app, Threads show how it will automatically and regularly update user’s ‘close friends’ list on Instagram with their current activities including watching television, going out, and sharing their availability in real time.

Users can also update their status manually, with statuses appearing in the main feed along with messages. Messages from friends will appear in a central feed and active friends can also be identified with a green dot.

While Instagram declined to comment, it is still unclear when Threads will be rolled out.
