Microsoft plans to triple IoT spending to $5B over four years

With the spending of approximately $1.5 billion to date on Internet of Things (IoT) according to a report from Venturebeat.com, Microsoft is planning to triple its investment to $5 billion over the next four years for research, products, services, and new programs.

Microsoft announced its commitment on increasing their investment to IoT a week after the company’s reorganization to give products and services to its “intelligent cloud and intelligent edge” as reported by ZDNet.

Microsoft Corporate Vice President Julia White said in a blog post that the company is planning to continue working on its IoT services and programs such as Windows operating system, cloud services for control and management, and analytics for acquiring insights from IoT devices.

Microsoft’s IoT investment has helped its existing Azure business that makes cloud computing “on the edge”, one of the company’s themes in last year’s Build developers conference.
