Pedestrian dies after being hit by self-driving Uber vehicle

The first ever fatal accident involving a self-driving Uber was reported when a woman died after being hit by an Uber SUV in Arizona.

In a report by Techspot.com, an operator was inside the Uber car which was in autonomous mode when it hit the victim who was crossing the road.

Uber expressed their sympathy to the family of the victim on Twitter and wrote: “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family. We’re fully cooperating with @TempePolice and local authorities as they investigate this incident.”

The company’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi also expressed his condolences over the sad news.

He wrote: “Some incredibly sad news out of Arizona. We’re thinking of the victim’s family as we work with local law enforcement to understand what happened.”

Uber suspended operations of self-driving vehicles in Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Toronto while the authorities conduct further investigation.
