Tablet market down 14.7 percent in the Q3 of 2016, says IDC

The tablet market continued its prolonged slump as tablet sales declined by 14.7 percent in this year’s third quarter, said a report from market intelligence firm IDC.

According to IDC, tablet vendors were only able to ship 43 million units in the recent quarter, 14.7 lower compared to the 50.5 million units shipped in 3Q 2015.

Apple remained the leader in tablet sales with 9.3 million units shipped in the third quarter of 2016. However, that figure is 6.2 percent lower compared to Apple’s tablet shipments from a year ago.

The Silicon Valley company is followed by its rival, Samsung, with 6.5 million units shipped in 3Q 2016. Like Apple, it also experienced a 19.3 percent year-over-year decline.

Rounding out the top five are Amazon, Lenovo, and Huawei. Of the three companies, only Amazon and Huawei experienced year-over-year growths with 319.9 percent and 28.4 percent respectively.
