One out of 20 Google searches is about health-related information. And now, Google made it easier and quicker for people to find what they are looking for.
Prem Ramaswami, Product Manager of Google shares that when you ask Google about common health conditions, you will be provided with relevant medical facts from the Knowledge Graph. You’ll see the typical symptoms and treatments or whether it is critical or contagious. High-quality illustrations from licensed medical illustrators will also be shown for your reference.
Google collaborated with a team of medical doctors led by Dr. Kapil Parakh, to compile, curate and review health-related information. They gather facts from their real-life clinical knowledge and other high-quality sources across the web. The pieces of information have been checked by medical doctors at Google and the Mayo Clinic for accuracy.
However, Ramaswami said that the information they give are intended as medical advice. “We know that cases can vary in severity from person to person, and that there are bound to be exceptions. What we present is intended for informational purposes only—and you should always consult a healthcare professional if you have a medical concern,” he said.
