KakaoTalk Secret Group Chat now offered on KakaoTalk’s Latest Android Update

Following the introduction of the Secret Chat mode last December, KakaoTalk this week expanded the enhanced security feature to group chatrooms.

Secret Group Chat utilizes extensive security measures to ensure a KakaoTalk experience that is as secure and private as possible. All messages sent and received in the new mode are encrypted end-to-end, meaning all message content is secured behind an additional layer of encryption before the message is sent. This ensures that the message is read only by the intended recipient(s).

In addition, once everyone in a group chatroom reads a message, it will automatically be deleted from KakaoTalk’s server and remain only on users’ smartphones.

Due to the enhanced security settings, Secret Group Chats are limited to 50 users and certain features, including polling and scheduling, are not available in the current version.

“KakaoTalk has always been extremely secure, but the Secret Chat Mode was developed to provide users with even greater privacy options. Whether chatting 1:1 or among a group, we want our users to know that KakaoTalk is taking the extra steps to protect their privacy.” said a spokesperson for KakaoTalk.

Android users will be able to access the Secret Group Chat mode following the latest update (4.8.0), and an iOS update is expected within the month. Additional information on KakaoTalk’s Secret Chat mode can be found at https://blog.daumkakao.com/?p=943.
