Seagate on July 19 unveiled the Guardian Series, a new set of 10TB hard drives namely the BarraCuda Pro Desktop Drive, IronWolf for NAS, and SkyHawk for Surveillance.
According to Seagate’s blog post, BarraCuda Pro for desktops was created to respond to demands for high capacity storage at an affordable price. The said hard drive combines 10TB at 7,200rpm spindle speed and a 220-MB data transfer rate.
Seagate senior marketing strategist Chris Deardoff said that BarraCuda Pro has the highest PC Compute spin speed at 7,200rpm for 3.5-inch HDD drives in the market.
The drive also has Seagate’s Self-Encryption Drive (SED) technology to protect data on the drive by using password while allowing users to change the encryption key to ensure that no one can access it.
The BarraCuda Pro will be available at a price of $535 and it also comes with a five-year limited warranty.
Meanwhile, the IronWolf brand is devised for NAS devices with one to 16 drive bays. It combines 10TB capacity with Seagate’s AgileArray, which supports error recovery controls, power management, and vibration tolerance for reliability when utilized in NAS devices.
It also has a multi-user technology that provides a 180TB/year user workload rate. The said drive is priced at $470 and comes with a limited three-year warranty.
Last among them is the SkyHawk brand for surveillance system, which is a 7,200rpm drive with up to 10TB capacity that can be used to store 10,000 hours of HD video.
It also has the ImagePerfect firmware, which enables the drive to be used by motion-sensing cameras and powers down the drive when not in use to reduce power consumption.
