Google announces new Pixel smartphone

Google on Tuesday, (October 4, 2016) unveiled its latest flagship smartphones called Pixel and Pixel XL.

Both the 5-inch Pixel and the 5.5-inch Pixel XL are powered by the latest Snapdragon 821 processor. The two new smartphones will also come with Android 7.1 Nougat.

Google is marketing the Pixel smartphones as the first to have built-in Google Assistant. With this new feature, users can either ask questions, manage everyday tasks, find photos faster, keep tabs on travel, or play entertaining music.

The Pixel and Pixel XL also sport a 12.3-megapixel smartphone camera that has a best-ever 89 DxOMark Mobile score. This camera is capable of shooting brilliant photos in any light conditions.

Coming along with the high-rated camera is an unlimited storage for photos and videos so Pixel users wouldn’t mind taking photos in bunches.

In addition, the Pixel phones are created to be compatible with Google’s Daydream View, meaning users will be able to enjoy virtual reality by connecting the smartphone to the Daydream headset.

On the hardware front, the Pixel smartphones are equipped with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front display and back glass to accent the aerospace grade aluminum body. At the back of the phones, the company installed its fingerprint sensor called Pixel Imprint, which will allow users to unlock or access the smartphone without touching the front screen.

In terms of battery, Pixel has a 2,770mAh battery while the Pixel XL has a 3,450 mAh battery. Both smartphones feature quick fast charging of 15 minutes.

Other notable features of the two smartphones include AMOLED displays, 4GB of RAM, USB Type-C port, 32GB or 128GB storage options, Bluetooth 4.2, and a 3.5mm headset jack.

The Pixel model starts at $649 while the larger Pixel XL starts at $769. Both models are available in three color options such as Very Silver, Quite Black, and the limited edition Really Blue.

Both smartphones are now available for pre-order in U.S., U.K., Germany, Canada, and Australia.
