StumbleUpon set to shut down after 16 years of service

One of the very first content discovery engines StumbleUpon announced its closing after 16 years of service with 60 billion websites and 40 million users.

According to a report by Techspot.com, the internet discovery platform is set to shut down on June 30 as announced by StumbleUpon co-founder Garrett Camp.

Camp stated that StumbleUpon accounts will be transferred to Mix.com, a platform similar to Pinterest.

StumbleUpon which was founded in 2001 served as one of the first content discovery platforms in the web that serve interesting content to be discovered in just a click of a button.

StumbleUpon seemed to have declined over the years as new social networking platforms and content websites arose which led to its permanent exit from the web.
