Global smartwatch shipments up by 48% year-over-year in Q1 2019

Global smartwatch shipments increased 48% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2019 according to the Global Smartwatch Tracker.

In a report released by Counterpoint, tech giant Apple made a big contribution in the smartwatch shipment rate with a 49% YoY growth which made up for its weak demands for iPhones.

Satyajit Sinha, Counterpoint Research Analyst, noted that among Apple Watch’s health-related features, ECG as the most desirable according to their latest Consumer Lens survey.

“The ECG capability in the Apple Watch is the most desirable feature, according to our latest Consumer Lens survey. Apple has now received approval on its ECG features from healthcare authorities of Hong Kong and 19 other countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK,” said Sinha.

Meanwhile, Samsung grew 11% in Q1 2019 with its “latest Galaxy watch series which came with better battery life as well as a very traditional round clockface design,” said Senior Analyst, Sujeong Lim.

Another notable increase among other brands is Huawei with its market share jumping to 3% in Q1 2019 because of the good traction for its latest Huawei Watch GT.
