Grab announced that it will be deactivating at least 8,000 transport network vehicle services (TNVS) units that are operating without an issued provisional authority by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
In a report by ABS-CBN News, Grab will be cutting down the units starting June 10 and will be opening 10,000 more new slots for the application for new drivers on the same day on top of the 20,000 slots the LTFRB opened last December.
Grab Philippines president Brian Cu said that the deactivation will reduce the number of vehicles servicing the commuters which may cause inconvenience for passengers.
“We hope that this inconvenience will be temporary, as we anticipate new drivers…This is very painful for us, our drivers, and passengers, but it is Grab’s duty to help the LTFRB enforce our regulations,” Cu said.
Meanwhile, those who were given appointment slots last December have until June 7 to complete the requirements.
