Startup Wing, a subsidiary of Google’s parent company Alphabet, just launched the world’s first commercial drone deliveries in Australia.
In a report by independent.co.uk, Wing has received the approval of Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to start delivering goods to a limited area via drone after a successful trial of the service.
The drone delivery will be available for only around 100 homes in the suburbs of Canberra before a wider roll-out of the service.
Orders can be done through a dedicated app where customers can choose from a range of products including coffee, ice cream and medicine.
According to Wing, the drone delivery time could take at least three minutes from the point of order with average flights taking around five minutes.
