From startups to large enterprises, today’s offices are already digitally integrated and many devices are connected to the network. At the same time, security risks come in many, ever-changing forms and most people are not aware that they can also put their devices—even their printers—at risk of cyber-attacks when left unchecked.
Unsecured devices as such are particularly vulnerable blind spots, especially in enterprise networks. A recent Spiceworks survey sponsored by HP support this; 43% of IT professionals from North America, EMEA, and Asia Pacific say that printers are completely ignored in their respective endpoint security practices and only 16% see printers being at risk for data breach.
With the goal of addressing this concern and upholding its commitment to developing the world’s most secure printers, HP Inc. Philippines conducted a discussion on HP Print Security, a new business solution that aims to reinforce protective and technological systems.
The protection every business needs
HP Print Security, which comprises of strong default security settings and tools, and services, systematically ensures the protection of a business: Device Security, which can detect and prevent attacks in real time; Data Security, which ensures that only authorized users and devices can access stored data; and Document Security, which can reduce unnecessary print jobs, protect sensitive documents, and deter document tampering or fraud.
“The printers in today’s enterprise environments are as sophisticated as any computing device,” explains Pallasena Viswanath, HP Inc. Philippines Managing Director. “Hackers can easily pull data from a printer’s hard drive, or get access to your company’s network. With this, we want to connect with IT decision makers, CIOs, and CISOs and engage this audience with a message that they’ll pay attention to. It’s extremely important to have all aspects of the ecosystem secured.”
To further highlight this, HP Inc. also launched a global campaign this year that kicked off with a four-part web series entitled The Wolf starring Golden Globe winner Christian Slater. The web series focuses on how hackers can easily gain access to a company’s private information simply by breaking through the vulnerable walls of unsecured printers. Today’s office: Now smart and secure
Today’s security risks are rapidly growing, and so does the need for offices to up their cyber security game. Through HP Print Security, HP lives up to its objective of creating a safer world filled with devices that are capable of protecting themselves.
“Most offices see their devices as tools that are used solely for everyday tasks. But this mindset is unknowingly paving the way for threats to break through their walls and figure out which devices can be easily targeted,” explains Viswanath. “HP Print Security aims to gain ground on communicating the importance of the security of these devices, and push the industry forward. We want to empower offices and everyday users with the right knowledge and resources to give them confidence in using their devices,” he adds.
