While Metro Manila was the location of two recent, but significant, events, namely, the death of Dolphy and SONA, these terms topped searches in Luzon and Mindanao, respectively. According to data from Google’s Insights for Search, the province of Mindoro Occidental tops the lists of regions interested in Dolphy’, while the province of Agusan del Norte in Mindanao tops the list of those most interested in the State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Widely regarded as the country’s King of Comedy, searches for, Rudolfo Vera Quizon, popularly known as Dolphy, surged as news of his death broke on July 10. The 85-year-old actor had starred in numerous long running tv shows, radio programs, stage plays and around 200 films, including his last movie, Father Jejemon, which won him the Best Actor award at the Metro Manila Film Festival in 2010. Given his popularity, it is no surprise that many paid tribute to the long time actor, including President Benigno Aquino III, who declared July 13, 2012 as a “National Day of Remembrance”.
In conjunction, some related terms that topped searches include, “dolphy quizon,” “dolphy news,” “dolphy movies,” and “dolphy latest news”, along with the name of his wife, Zsa Zsa Padilla, also a singer and actress.
National interest in the State of the Union address, or SONA, also surged in July, with Agusan del Norte showing the most regional interest, followed by Benguet, Lanao del Norte, Zambales, and Albay.
