In a concrete display of active citizenship through volunteerism, Globe Telecom is strengthening its partnership with Gawad Kalinga (GK) for the 10th edition of its nationwide annual volunteerism event “Bayani Challenge.”
One of the many initiatives under GK’s three-year effort “Barangay Walang Iwanan” umbrella campaign, the “Bayani Challenge” will serve as a platform for Globe as its co-presentor to lead concerted efforts to advocate a lifestyle of volunteerism and bayanihan at the barangay level. This is earmarked to create a positive impact on at least 250 families in 20,000 barangays through a host of meaningful activities such as rebuilding homes and schools, planting trees, conducting clean-up drives and health missions, as well as investing time with children, among many others – all in line to bolster GK’s mission of eliminating poverty for 5 million Filipino families by 2024.
“Globe has long been committed to promote active citizenship through volunteerism. We have seen firsthand the wonderful results of people working together toward a common goal in the previous stagings of the ‘Bayani Challenge.’ That said, we encourage the public to join this year’s event in order to ignite the bayanihan spirit in local villages across the country,” said Globe Corporate Social Responsibility Director Fernando Esguerra.
For nine full weeks from April 9 to June 12, GK will be mobilizing volunteers, working closely together with Globe, to take part in house building, play therapy, feeding, environment, health, sports, and disaster preparedness activities in more than 200 municipalities across the country. Through the “Bayani Challenge,” GK hopes to create worthwhile opportunities for millions of Filipinos to care for the poor and the environment.
Eleven years running, Globe and GK have been partners for initiatives spanning various advocacies. From building the Globe-TM GK Village in Bagong Silang, Cavite, the Tattoo GK Villages in Ormoc, Leyte and New Washington in Aklan, Globe also heavily supports the GK Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan, empowering social enterprises which GK houses there.
