Almost everyone uses their smartphones many times in a day. They utilize it for chatting with friends, browsing the internet or playing mobile games. Knowing this fact, some group of people conducted a study which determined an average person’s number of touches in a smartphone.
For this study, people from dscout, a mobile research company, recruited a demographically diverse sample of 94 Android users from a pool of more than 10,000 participants. They also created a supplementary smartphone tool to track every user’s interaction in the period of 5 days, 24 hours a day.
Every interaction means every tap, type, swipe and click which are called touches.
The result was fascinating as the 94 participants combined for 33,090 total sessions and 1,120,317 touches in the period of 60,003 minutes. Based on this data, an average user tapped, swiped and clicked his smartphone 2,617 times each day, 78,510 a month and almost a million times a year.
Another mind-boggling data showed that a heavy user touched his phone 5,427 times a day, 162,810 a month and almost 2 million times a year.
In terms of screen time, an average user tallied 2.42 hours in front of his phone while heavy users registered 3.75 hours.
Meanwhile, the research also found out that 52 percent of phone sessions included interacting with just a single app, and that app was Facebook. Only two apps were used for another 27 percent of the time.
