YouTube on Monday (November 7, 2016) announced that it will be adding support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) videos on its platform.
In a YouTube blog post, the video-sharing service explained that the HDR support allows videos with higher contrast and wider color gamut, giving users a clearer and more vibrant video. This move is part of YouTube’s continued effort to push the boundaries of online video, where it has previously introduced support for HD video, 4K video, 360-degree video, and more.
YouTube viewers can now watch HDR videos on the YouTube platform, provided that their device supports HDR. An example of the device with HDR capability is Google’s new Chromecast Ultra.
In addition, YouTube said that Samsung’s SUHD and UHD TVs will soon support HDR videos.
Meanwhile, video creators can now upload their HDR videos on YouTube.
