Surgeons at England’s Solihull Hospital were surprised to discover 27 contact lenses in a 67-year-old patient’s eye when she was being prepped for surgery at the said hospital. The report was authored by Rupal Morjaria, a specialist trainee ophthalmologist, Richard Crombie, a consultant anesthesiologist and Amit Patel, a consultant ophthalmologist for British Medical Journal.
A “blueish mass” of 17 contact lenses has been discovered in the eye of the patient and another 10 individual contact lenses were discovered in the woman’s eye following further examination.
“None of us have ever seen this before. “We were really surprised that the patient didn’t notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while it was sitting there.” said Rupal Morjaria on Optometry Today.
