A Lithuanian man is facing nearly 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and money-laundering charges after admitting that he stole $99 million from Facebook and $23 million from Google.
According to a report by nydailynews.com, Evaldas Rimasauskas sent Facebook and Google fake invoices, contracts, and letters which the companies honored and paid.
The crimes reportedly took place between 2013 and 2015 where Rimasauskas pretended to be Quanta Computer which he made in Latvia when the actual Quanta Computer is based in Taiwan.
The payments were then transferred to bank accounts in Cyprus, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Latvia.
“As Evaldas Rimasauskas admitted today, he devised a blatant scheme to fleece U.S. companies out of over $100 million, and then siphoned those funds to bank accounts around the globe,” Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman stated.
Rimasauskas then agreed to hand over $50 million as part of his plea deal.
