In this digital age when cyberspace has emerged to be the public sphere where Filipinos exercise their rights and responsibilities, it is necessary to comprehend the technology and philosophy surrounding computers, internet, and other forms of connectivity. To elevate the discourse, the book entitled, “Data Privacy and Cybercrime Prevention in the Philippine Digital Age” authored by Henry Rhoel Aguda, Bryan Dennis Tiojanco, and Maria Francesca Montes was launched on 09 June 2016, Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Main Dining, 14/F Lopez Building, Meralco Compound, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.
The event was graced by the Keynote Speaker, Senator Edgardo J. Angara who authored Republic Act No. 10173 or Data Privacy Act and Republic Act No. 10175 Cybercrime Prevention Act, respectively. He contextualized the creation and the implementation of the said laws and how they timely fill in the gaps in the evolving digital industry and the establishment of the Department of Information and Communication Technology. CEO & President of Vibal Group, Mr. Gus Vibal narrated how their company was able to shape their business model into digital pivot – from traditional textbook printing enterprise to technology service provider.
