Facebook and Instagram experience worldwide outage for hours

Worldwide users of the social media platforms Facebook and Instagram have been experiencing partial or complete outages for several hours now.

Some Facebook users encounter an error message that says: “Facebook is down for required maintenance right now but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes. In the meantime, read more about why you’re seeing this message. Thanks for your patience as we improve the site.”

Meanwhile, a number of Instagram users could not log into their accounts with an error message, saying: “There was a problem logging you into Instagram. Please try again soon.”

Facebook has addressed the issue via Twitter and wrote: “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

Facebook also clarified that the issue is not related to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.

“We’re focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but can confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS attack,” Facebook wrote on Twitter.
