Intel Corporation and Toshiba Corporation announced that the two companies will collaborate on enhanced IoT security for Toshiba’s industrial infrastructure system solutions that integrates Intel’s latest security technologies and domain expertise into Toshiba’s solutions. The collaboration will protect Toshiba’s customers’ data and businesses from emerging cyber threats, with a main focus on the industrial infrastructure sector, including energy, transportation and healthcare.
Toshiba and Intel will advance progress by collaborating in pilot projects that aim to validate proof of concept(s) by the end of March 2016, and develop and optimize Toshiba’s security solution offerings using the framework of Intel Security Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP).
Through the collaboration Toshiba plans to reinforce the security capabilities of its IoT and industrial infrastructure system solutions by adopting Intel’s security solutions, including CIP, security information and event management (SIEM), whitelisting, endpoint security and next generation firewall. The main emphasis will be on the energy, transportation and healthcare business segments, where Toshiba has a strong presence.
A major challenge facing industrial customers is how to secure mostly closed legacy systems and devices that do not have the level of instrumentation required to maintain security, and that are becoming vulnerable to cyber-attacks due to IoT deployment. Toshiba will tackle the increasing cyber security challenges for IoT connected system and devices by utilizing Intel’s suite of security products and expertise to offer protection across its IoT and industrial infrastructure portfolios.
“Cyber threats have become a major concern that are causing industrial companies to hold back their transition to IoT,” said Shigeyoshi Shimotsuji, Corporate Vice President and Executive Vice President of Toshiba’s Industrial ICT Solutions Company. “This collaboration allows Toshiba to benefit from Intel’s latest security technologies and deep experience and will boost the security capabilities of our industrial infrastructure solutions. It is a positive move that will bring peace of mind to customers and support them in further advancing their IoT businesses.”
“Security is a critical factor to the success of IoT businesses.” said Doug Davis, senior vice president and general manager of Internet of Things Group, Intel Corporation. “Intel Security CIP provides the technology for a highly secure managed platform that includes fundamental protection building blocks. Together with the latest technologies and expertise from Intel and Toshiba, we accelerate IoT business growth with security offerings.”
