Google’s classic Hangouts is set to officially disappear in October and will be replaced by the Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet applications.
In a report by The Verge, Google is set to start retiring the classic Hangouts app in October for its G Suite customers according to an official blog post.
In the said blog post, the Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet were referred to as the “next generation of Hangouts” focusing on team communication.
Here is the timeline for the expected changes on the Hangouts app:
• April 16, 2019 – Several changes that may require administrator action (see below for details).
• Between April and September 2019 – Features from classic Hangouts will come to Chat.
• October 2019 – Start retiring classic Hangouts for G Suite customers.
The changes will first apply to G Suite customers before slowly targeting regular consumers.
