Twitter temporarily disabled its feature where users could tweet via SMS after some accounts owned by some celebrities and even its CEO Jack Dorsey got hijacked.
According to a report by Engadget, it was not clear if what took place was a result of SIM hijacking but the report said that dorsey’s account fell victim to a “security oversight” that let people send tweets via text through his phone number.
In a series of Tweets, Twitter announced that they are temporarily turning off the Tweet via SMS feature “to protect people’s accounts.”
The company explained: “We’re taking this step because of vulnerabilities that need to be addressed by mobile carriers and our reliance on having a linked phone number for two-factor authentication (we’re working on improving this).”

According to Twitter, it will reactivate the feature in markets that depend on SMS soon while they work on their long-term strategy.
