The US Government is set to require drone owners to put external markings to their devices to make it easier for law enforcement to trace its owners.
In a report by Bloomberg, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rule will be requiring all drone owners to put visible markings on their drones starting February 23 on its efforts to response to terrorism fears.
The rule was made after concerns “regarding the risk a concealed explosive device poses to first responders who must open a compartment to find the small unmanned aircraft’s registration number” were raised by agencies such as the FBI and the Homeland Security Department.
In 2015, the FAA first required drone owners to register their aircraft where the ID numbers could be placed inside the device’s battery compartment.
In the new regulation, owners will be required to put the ID numbers outside their drones which could be visible without having to open any part of the device.
