After 20 years of chatting service to users, Yahoo Messenger is apparently shutting down next month as announced by Yahoo.
In a report by Techspot.com, the famous messaging app will be discontinued but users could still be able to download their chat history through visiting the downloader request site for the next six months.
Yahoo Messenger was first launched as Yahoo Pager back in 1998 and was since used as an instant messaging app alongside AOL’s Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger and ICQ.
Such messaging apps gained popularity in the 90’s and 2000’s but fell out after mobile devices emerged.
The reported shutting down date of Yahoo Messenger is July 17, following AOL’s AIM which was discontinued December last year. MSN Messenger was earlier shut down in 2014.
