Mark Nottingham, the current chair of the IETF HTTP working group announced in his blog post that the predecessor of HTTP is done. He shares that the HTTP/2 is done and it has been formally approved by the IESG.
In the abstract of the Hyper Transfer Protocol version 2, it is stated that the HTTP/2 enables a more efficient use of network resources and a reduces perception of latency by introducing header field compression and allowing multiple concurrent exchanges on the same connection. It also introduces unsolicited push of representations from serves to clients.
The HTTP/2 specifications are currently on the way to RFC editor where it will soon be assigned an RFC number, go through some editorial processes, and be published. They will release an official entry about HTTP/2 soon.
