Apple announced its plan of investing €1.7 Billion to create and operate two new data centres in Country Galway, Ireland and Jutland, Denmark. These facilities will cater to Apple’s online services such as the iTunes Store, App Store, iMessage, Maps and Siri for customers across Europe.
“We are grateful for Apple’s continued success in Europe and proud that our investment supports communities across the continent,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “This significant new investment represents Apple’s biggest project in Europe to date. We’re thrilled to be expanding our operations, creating hundreds of local jobs and introducing some of our most advanced green building designs yet.
The two new data centres will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy, having the lowest environmental impact yet for an Apple data centre. It will sun entirely on clean, renewable energy sources at the moment it begin its operations. Apple also plans to collaborate with local partners in developing more renewable energy projects from wind and other sources to generate power in the future.
