Facebook announced its partnership to leading news networks such as CNN, Fox News, ABC News and Univision to produce its first original news shows online.
Gadgetsnow.com reported that the giant social networking company, together with its partners will be producing Facebook Watch, the platform’s on-demand video service in its effort to compete with video-streaming websites such as YouTube.
After Facebook’s announcement of removing the ‘Trending’ feature due to accusations of spreading ‘fake news’, the network’s news shows aim to offer “trusted” content to users.
Facebook news partnerships chief Campbell Brown said: “Earlier this year we made a commitment to show news that is trustworthy, informative, and local on Facebook.”
“As a part of that commitment, we are creating a dedicated section within Watch for news shows produced exclusively for Facebook by news publishers. With this effort, we are testing a destination for high quality and timely news content on the platform,” he added.
The programs will include “On Location” which will feature stories from ABC’s journalists around the globe, “Anderson Cooper Full Circle” featuring the CNN host, and “Fox News Update” hosted by anchor Shepard Smith.
Facebook Watch zone will be getting a news section featuring live coverage, daily briefings, and “deep dives” according to Facebook’s head of news products Alex Hardiman.
