Getting past Berkshire Hathaway Inc.’s chairman and chief executive officer Warren Buffett, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is now the third wealthiest person in the world after the social networking company’s shares increased by 2.4% according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
In a report by fortune.com, the 34-year-old Facebook co-founder has overtaken 87-year-old Buffet with $81.6 billion value, $373 million more than the latter’s.
It is the first time people who make fortunes through technology made it on the top three with Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates.
About a fifth of more than $5 trillion in wealth tracked by the Bloomberg Index is made up of technology fortunes among the world’s 500 richest people.
