Sony Computer Entertainment changes its name

Sony Computer Entertainment changed its name to Sony Interactive Entertainment last April 1, 2016, and has absorbed Sony Network Entertainment LLC in the process.

The two companies made Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) possible in the hope that the combine company’s strengths to an even stronger entity, and make one global interactive entertainment powerhouse. In a statement made by Shawn Layden of PlayStation Blog, the new company is stationed in San Mateo, California, with satellite offices in Tokyo and London.

The diamond-shaped SCE logo will stay and together with the new name, all is set and was already reflected in the company’s office seen in a tweet from PlayStation Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida. The combined efforts could make for a strong Sony Interactive Entertainment experience that can adapt more quickly to meet the needs of the gaming community, and constant innovation in the dynamic medium of video games.

Playstation executive Andrew House told GameSpot, “Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers’ imaginations and lead the market.” He also added that “SIE will vigorously expand the PlayStation business by delivering an integrated experience built around best-in-class games and network services to consumers worldwide.”

Just last week, Sony also announced the formation that would focus on making mobile games in the Asian market.
