Ransomware is a threat that prevents users from accessing their computer system and asks for online payment to grant access back into one’s system. One specific example of ransomware is the crypto-ransomware that locks affected systems and encrypts key files found on the system’s hard drive. This kind of threat was able to extort a total of 18 million USD in just 15 months.
