Globe extends immediate aid to armed conflict survivors in Maguindanao

Globe Telecom recently reached out to more than 1,800 families in Maguindanao, providing much-needed aid to those adversely affected by armed conflict.

Particularly in Barangay Poblacion in the town of Talayan in Maguindanao, the telco led collective efforts to provide various types of aid and social services to communities displaced by the recent military operations against Muslim rebels in the area. From March 19 to 23, employee volunteers from the telco transported food and non-food items from nearby Koronadal and General Santos City, then assisted in the turnover of the relief goods to the International Organization for Migration. Together, the two organizations sent the relief goods to the provincial office in Buluan, Maguindanao.

Along with provincial officers who donated malongs as well as the Department of Social Welfare and Development which augmented the goods with sacks of rice, the Globe contingent provided necessary assistance to 700-plus families, with 1,032 more in Barangay Katidtuan to be benefited by relief operations.

“Globe is committed to building more resilient communities, and one of the ways we do this is by providing immediate relief assistance in times of crisis. By augmenting the basic needs of Talayan residents, we hope to help ease their situation as they strive to adjust to their new living conditions,” said Globe Corporate Social Responsibility Director Fernando Esguerra.

As an advocate and enabler of good governance, Globe is closely working with heads of local government units, particularly with Maguindanao’s Governor Esmael Mangudadatu, to help uplift living conditions in the province, especially in the immediate environs of the armed clashes. A series of relief operations is scheduled in the coming weeks to further assist other survivors in the province.
