In Prototype 2 destruction is at your fingertips, and you don’t have to work hard to make unbelievable chaos. Prototype 2 transports you to a consequence-free world in which you can happily cleave soldiers and smash helicopters to your heart’s content.
Despite this seemingly carefree killing and destroying, the game takes the storyline seriously. A military force has quarantined a major metropolis under the guise of protecting citizens from a viral outbreak, but in reality, they are conducting bioweapon research, and the people are just unlucky cattle being led to slaughter. As you learn about the conspiracy, it becomes satisying to slaughter your enemies.
Hand-to-hand combat is just as effective as the murderous weapons. Your arms transform into a bevy of handy killing contraptions such as tendrils, blades, and hammers, and you map two of these to two buttons.
Prototype 2 is a safe sequel. It doesn’t add anything particularly new to the genre, but small tweaks make it more accessible than the original game. Mindless killing is the main concept of the game, and it’s weirdly fun.
