Samsung announced on Friday (December 9, 2016) that it will roll out a software update on December 19 to prevent U.S. Galaxy Note 7 phones from charging, thus eliminating their ability to function as mobile devices.
According to Samsung’s news release, the company is releasing the software update to further increase participation in the U.S. Note 7 Refund and Exchange Program.
The South Korean company said that more than 93 percent of all recalled Galaxy Note 7 smartphones have been returned.
Last October, Samsung permanently suspended sales of Galaxy Note 7 devices due to exploding risks.
