Choose your Facebook Heir with the Legacy Contact

Have you ever think about what will happen to your Facebook account after you pass away? If that thoughts have crossed your mind, your question has been asnwered as Facebook add the legacy contact feature. This new feature allows people to choose someone to manage their account after they are gone.

Once Facebook has been informed that someone has passed a away, the account will be memorialized and the person chosen to mange it will be able to write a post to display at the top of the memorialized Timeline, respond to new friend requests, and update the profile picture and cover photo.

People who doesn’t love the idea of a memorialized Facebook account have another option. They can ask Facebook in advance to permanenlty delete their account after their death.

”We’re introducing legacy contacts in the US first and look forward to expanding to more countries. Setting up a legacy contact is completely optional. Our team at Facebook is grateful and humbled to be working on these improvements. We hope this work will help people experience loss with a greater sense of possibility, comfort and support,” written in a Facebook post written by Facebook Product Manager, Vanessa Callison-Burch, Facebook Content Strategist Jasmin Probst, and Facebook Software Engineer Mark Govea.
